Our Primary Focus: Racing The Beam

20-track stock car oval series powered by CyberVGA. Try the compact single-player experience Pay-What-You-Want on itch.io, or race friends online in the full Steam & Epic Games Store P2P Multiplayer editions.

Racing The Beam

“How long can you stand?” A high-speed 20-track stock car oval series built on the CyberVGA engine. The name is a double tribute: racing the classic CRT scanline beam, and racing real-time CPU-traced light beams.

20 Ovals. Dual Rendering Pipeline. Pure Stock Car Pace.

Drive stock cars across 20 banked speedways, chase lap records, battle through a 20-race Cup Championship, or test your nerve in Survival mode where the pack is out to eliminate you.

  • 4 Core Race Modes: Single Race (custom laps & time of day), Time Trial (pure pace), Cup Season (full 20-race points championship), and Survival (knockout elimination).
  • Live Renderer Toggle: Starts in multi-core 32-bit x86-64 JIT Raytracing with L1-SH Global Illumination, hard shadows, reflections, AMD FSR 2.0, and CRT phosphor/curvature shaders—with classic 8-bit 320x240 Mode X always one toggle away.
  • On-The-Fly Cameras & Telemetry: Switch seamlessly between Chase, Hood, and Cockpit cameras (C key) with 6 persistent driver career profiles (BEAMDRV.PRF).
  • 11 Languages & Full Controller Support: Complete UI localization (EN, DE, ES, FR, PT-PT, PT-BR, TR, RU, JA, KO, ZH-CN) and plug-and-play gamepad support.

CyberVGA SDK v1.8.0

Pure-CPU 3D software rendering and real-time x86-64 JIT raytracing engine. No Direct3D, Vulkan, or GPU raytracing APIs—built from scratch in C and Assembly around deterministic Q16.16 fixed-point simulation and a 30-bit 3D Morton-ordered sparse octree.

Where the CPU Instruction Pointer (RIP) Is the Octree Cursor

CyberVGA started as a pure 1990s MS-DOS Mode X (320x240) software rasterizer in C89 and NASM. In v1.8.0, the Win64 build pairs that deterministic fixed-point simulation with JITRay: a multi-threaded CPU raytracer that compiles the loaded level's octree, active volumes, and material shaders directly into native x86-64 machine code at runtime.

Switch between the 32-bit x86-64 JIT raytracer and the classic 8-bit paletted software rasterizer on the fly with F7, or slide a live split-screen divider side-by-side with F11.

RNDR/RAYTRC/RAY_X64.C

Direct-Threaded x86-64 JIT Octree

Emits native x86-64/SSE machine code into a VirtualAlloc buffer on level load. No outer loop, no struct lookup, no recursion stack—on an AABB hit execution falls through; on a miss, a baked ja rel32 (0x0F 0x87) jumps straight to nodes[skip_index].

RNDR/RAYTRC/RAY_GI.C

L1-SH Global Illumination

Solves multi-bounce indirect lighting on the CPU using a 16×8×16 world-space grid of 2,048 L1 Spherical Harmonics probes paired with emissive Virtual Point Lights (VPLs), Fibonacci sphere sampling, and per-material JIT bounce stubs.

RAY_PBR.C • FOGVOL.C • LIQVOL.C

PBR, Volumetric Fog & Liquids

Cook-Torrance GGX microfacet specular, tangent-space normal mapping, recursive reflections, Beer-Lambert volumetric fog & spotlight cone shafts, and refractive liquid volumes with Snell's law ray bending and underwater caustics.

GFX/VGA_SPAN.C • A_RAST.ASM

Classic 8-Bit Mode X Rasterizer

The original Q16.16 software rasterizer lives under the same binary: affine and 16-pixel perspective-correct span drawers, 1/z depth buffering, 64×256 LUT lighting with 4×4 Bayer ordered dithering, and self-modifying x86 span emitters.

PHYS/PHYS.C • GAME/CAR.C

Fixed-Point Physics & Vehicles

Deterministic Q16.16 multi-threaded capsule-vs-octree and capsule-vs-capsule collision resolution with 4-iteration wall sliding, plus a 4-wheel Hooke's law spring/damper raycast vehicle dynamics simulator.

CEDIT.C • GFX/CFSR.C

CyberEdit & AMD FSR 2.2

Includes CyberEdit, a 4-viewport editor for parametric brushes, 64×64 terrain heightmaps/splatmaps, lights, and real-time .COC octree baking, paired with AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.2 temporal upscaling.

COUNTED

“EVERY CITIZEN COUNTS.” You are Unit 9, an Enforcer sent into Sector Nine to correct the count. The Broadcast has already explained what happened. The workers are lying. The records are accurate. Your assignment is routine—unfortunately, one of those statements may be incorrect. Created for Brackeys Game Jam 2026.2 on CyberVGA with original engine, story, world, and music.

FUSED

“DON'T TOUCH. DON'T SNAP.” Spark is fire that learned to run. Charge is a powder keg that learned to walk. Tied together by a live fuse across a 5,000-meter industrial night plant of slag, slick oil, blue water, and red-hot plates. Play solo controlling both characters at once, or share one keyboard with a partner and split the blame across 3 fuse lengths (Chilled, Hot, BOOM!).

Engineering-First Game Development

Novus Idea is an independent game research and development company based in Istanbul. We specialize in building custom rendering engines, deterministic simulation pipelines, and distinctive games that bridge the immediacy of 1990s PC & demoscene graphics with modern multi-core systems programming.

Whether we are hand-tuning x86-64 JIT octree traversal kernels, baking L1 Spherical Harmonics probes, or crafting tight 320x240 palette-driven worlds, we treat hardware-era constraints as creative catalysts rather than limitations.

1. Website Visits (www.novusidea.net)

Our website is a static site that does not set first-party tracking cookies, require user accounts, or run analytics scripts. Standard web server access logs (such as IP address, browser user-agent, and requested URL) may be transiently processed by our hosting provider strictly for security, abuse prevention, and content delivery. Fonts and UI assets loaded from Google Fonts, jsDelivr (Bootstrap), and Cloudflare CDN (Font Awesome) are subject to their respective infrastructure privacy policies.

2. Standalone Games & CyberVGA SDK (itch.io / DRM-Free)

Standalone builds distributed via expfunction.itch.io—including the Racing The Beam Single-Player PWYW Edition, COUNTED, FUSED, Cat Burglar, and the CyberVGA SDK—do not connect to the internet or transmit any personal or gameplay data to Novus Idea. All configuration files and career save profiles remain solely on your local storage.

3. Steam & Epic Games Store Editions (Online P2P & Crossplay)

The Steam and Epic Games Store editions of Racing The Beam integrate Valve Steamworks SDK and Epic Online Services (EOS) to provide online peer-to-peer (P2P) crossplay and store features. When you launch or play these editions, the game client processes the following platform-provided data in memory:

  • Account Identifiers: Your SteamID, Epic Account ID, and EOS Product User ID (PUID) to authenticate sessions and establish cross-platform lobbies.
  • Display Name & Language: Your public Steam persona name or Epic display name (used to seed default local driver profile names and display your car tag in multiplayer lobbies) and store locale code (to select among 11 supported UI languages).
  • Multiplayer & P2P Networking: When hosting or joining an online race, real-time vehicle state packets (position, velocity, yaw, and race standings) and lobby join codes are transmitted directly between peers via EOS_P2P / EOS_Lobby relay sockets and Steam Lobbies. Novus Idea does not operate dedicated game servers or log player IP addresses.

4. How We Use & Share Information

Novus Idea does not maintain an external database of player personal data. Any account identifiers, display names, or telemetry packets processed during gameplay are used solely at runtime to execute the features you request (such as joining a friend's P2P lobby or syncing your cloud save). Information is shared only with other players currently in your active multiplayer lobby (your display name, vehicle state, and lap times) and with Valve Corporation (Steam) or Epic Games, Inc. (Epic Online Services) in accordance with their platform privacy policies.

5. Data Retention, Deletion & Your Rights (GDPR / KVKK / CCPA)

Because Novus Idea does not store your personal data on proprietary studio servers, you retain direct control over your data at all times:

  • Local Save Data: You may reset or delete your local career profiles at any time from the in-game Profile Manager or by deleting PROFILES.IDX, BEAMDRV.PRF, and PROF_*.PRF from the game installation folder.
